Nafaanra is the language of the Nafana people. They are located along the Côte d'Ivoire border, northwest of Wenchi, and south of the Volta in Brong Ahafo Region. The chief towns of the region are Banda and Sampa. Several traditions suggest that the Nafana people are comprised of several migrating groups including Muslims. However in 1894 a treaty with Britain enabled them to settle in Ghana and brought an end to their wanderings.
They are predominantly farmers with main cash crops of yams and calabashes. Crops for local consumption include corn, millet, beans, groundnut and okra.
They often migrate in a quest for a trade, education, a salaried job or to maybe to escape witchcraft.
Nafana Banda people are attracted to Christianity by processions, singing, and the Christian funeral customs, however they are put off by Christian rules about drunkenness and polygamy. They are attracted to Muslims' demonstrations of mutual loyalty and brotherly love; however they are put off by strict Muslim rules governing animal slaughter.
Like most rural West African peoples, the Nafana Banda people need a regular source of clean water. They also need medical clinics to take care of illnesses and injuries.
Pray that the few Nafana Banda Christians will be salt and light to their neighbors and family members.
Pray for the Lord to show himself powerful and good by providing the Nafana Banda people with a record-breaking harvest.
Pray for Nafana Banda disciples to make more disciples among their own people.
