Introduction / History

Birwas were originally from South Africa’s Transvaal. Most are now settled in the Tuli block region of Botswana, though some still live in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Their language, Birwa, is a dialect of Northern Sotho. Ethnically, they are part of the Sotho-Tswana Bantu people cluster.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Birwas live in a land of good soil where they can grow crops and raise livestock.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Birwas adhere to traditional religion, though many also identify as Christians. There are enough Evangelicals among them to evangelize and even disciple their communities and families.

What Are Their Needs?

Their needs include adequate medical facilities and good schools.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Birwas to have their physical and spiritual needs met by our generous God.
Pray for them to put their faith in God rather than the spirit world.
Pray that soon Birwa disciples will be making more disciples.
