During French colonial days, there were unions between French soldiers and Cambodian women. These unions produced “Eurasians” a term coined by the British around 1820 to label people with a mix of European and Asian blood. During French colonial days they were given preferential treatment for civil service jobs and higher education. They identified with French culture. When the French were driven out, the Eurasians who remained were resented by the Cambodians. A number of them were removed from Cambodia, often called “orphans” and given new lives in France.
In Cambodia, they are not well-accepted by the majority people; thus, they are a separate people group.
About half of Eurasians in Cambodia are Roman Catholic. Others are either Buddhist or secular.
Eurasians in Cambodia need a sense of identity. Jesus can be their identity and give them a sense of acceptance and love that they lack.
Pray that Eurasians in Cambodia will find the love and acceptance they need to thrive spiritually and experience joy and wholeness.
Pray for Eurasians to have a desire to find spiritual truth and a relationship with the living God.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to transform the Catholic Church in Cambodia.
