Introduction / History

The history of the Muyscas pre-dates that of the Incans. They arrived in Colombia from Central America 300-400 years before that time. They founded Bogota and called it Bacata. Many still live there today. The Muyscas were famous for making items out of gold. At their height, the Muyscas numbered over a million.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Today the Muyscas have very little status in Colombia, but they are trying to revive their ancient culture partly through their stories. Some are farmers who grow potatoes, coriander and the popular grain, quinoa.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Muyscas are almost entirely Roman Catholic today. There are some Evangelicals among them.

What Are Their Needs?

The Muyscas need the chance to re-establish their culture. Their dignity has been violated for centuries. They also need their water cleaned up. They depend on river water that has been polluted.

Prayer Points

Pray for their rivers to be cleaned up.
Pray for God s provisions for the Muyscas.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move in Muysca churches, leading them to put all their faith in Jesus Christ and serve him faithfully.
Pray that soon Muysca disciples will make more disciples.
