In 1704 an Anglo-Dutch force captured the strategic Rock of Gibraltar. Almost all the people who lived there left. There have been immigrants from numerous countries in Europe and beyond, the greatest coming from Great Britain, Spain and Italy. There are also Moroccan Jews and even Hindus represented in this British territory.
For many years the British treated Gibraltarians as second class citizens. Then came WWII when it became necessary for them to forge a British identity for the war effort. They were evacuated to the UK, and many remain there today.
Today the Gibraltarians identify as British, but this can easily change because of Brexit. They speak English as a trade language, but they have their own accent. Spanish is a second language.
Most are either Roman Catholic or Church of England. The latter is the dominant religion.
The Gibraltarians are going through a time when their identity will be shaken. This is a good time for these people to put their identity on the Rock of Jesus Christ.
Pray for Gibraltarian identity to be turned to the one who can give them a hope and a future.
Pray for the Lord to bless them abundantly and for them to respond with devotion and thanksgiving.
Pray for spiritual hunger that will lead them to the rock.
