Introduction / History

The Nukuini are a First Nations people living in Brazil. They were among the many tribes adversely affected by the rubber boom of the late 19th and early 20th century. Outsiders brought diseases, and today there are very few Nukuini people left. They speak Portuguese rather than their own language.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Nukuini homes each contain people from their nuclear family, but they live near other family members. Their homes are usually made from natural materials, but some have zinc roofs.
They get their food from farming, fishing, hunting and finding foods in the rainforest. They also raise domesticated animals such as chickens, cattle, ducks and pigs. Some make money by selling handicrafts.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though there is a Roman Catholic element to their spirituality, most Nukuini are animistic, worshipping spirits.

What Are Their Needs?

The Nukuini people need to adapt to a changing world. They will eventually need education in new areas. This will take them out of their comfort zone.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to provide protection and mercy for the Nukuini people of Brazil.
Pray for members of the Nukuini tribe who love the Lord to teach Christ to others.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among the Nukuini people this decade, providing them with a hope and a purpose.
