Introduction / History

Not only do the Tai Do consider themselves a distinct people group, they also retain many customs that show they originated in a place far removed from their present location.

Members of the Tai Do ethnic group live within Borikhamxai Province in central Laos. They are mostly concentrated in Khamkeut District, with several villages in Viangthong and Pakkading districts. A few have migrated into the Pakxan District in recent decades. A small number live in neighboring Vietnam.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Young adults among the Tai Do chose their own spouses, but they must have the consent of their parents. The groom's family must pay her family a dowry, and he must leave his family's household and become part of hers. What he earns goes towards his bride's family.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Tai Do are animistic. In traditional religion, they must appease spirits in an attempt to gain blessings and avoid catastrophes, which the spirits can bring upon them.

What Are Their Needs?

An informant from Borikhamxai believes there are a small number (about 50) of Tai Do believers in Laos. These are the first-fruits of what will hopefully be a much larger harvest of Tai Do believers. As far as we know, there are no Tai Do believers in neighboring Vietnam.

Prayer Points

Pray God would call the Tai Do believers to live strong, faithful and busy lives among their lost relatives.

Ask God to spread the Tai Do church to all their villages both in Laos and Vietnam.

Pray for the Tai Do people to have a hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Pray for the Lord to sends dreams to Tai Do elders about the King of kings.
