Introduction / History

The vast majority of the people of the Dominican Republic are of mixed race. That means they have European, African or First Nations people in their ancestry. Mulatto is a term used to describe people who are partially African and partially European in their ancestry.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Partly because of their historical hostility towards their black-dominated neighbor, Haiti, Dominicans try not to be black. It’s very popular for Mulatto women to straighten their hair to look less African.

What Are Their Beliefs?

West Indian Mulattos are almost always affiliated with a Christian church, be it Roman Catholic or Protestant.

What Are Their Needs?

God’s litmus test is repentance, not race. West Indian Mulattos need to accept themselves for who they are; people in need of guidance by the King of kings who accepts all regardless of ethnicity.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Holy Spirit to bring about an awareness of the need for the only Savior among the West Indian Mulattos.
Pray for West Indian Mulattos who love the Lord to disciple others in his ways.
Pray for the Lord to bring about a sense of contentment and self-acceptance for those whom the world disdains in the Dominican Republic.
