The Amma Kodaga people have lived in the hilly regions of southern Karnataka for centuries. Traditionally they had a military background and many owned land. They trace their lineage to ancient tribal communities known for their unique customs and traditions. Over the years, they have adapted to the evolving social and economic landscapes around them. They speak their own language, Kodava.
Today, the Amma Kodaga people reside in rural and forested areas, primarily engaging in agriculture and forestry. They cultivate crops like coffee, spices and fruits. Many also gather forest products for additional income. Their communities are tightly-knit, with a strong emphasis on family and communal support. The Amma Kodaga people uphold their own cultural life. On special occasions they enjoy traditional festivals, music and dance.
The Amma Kodaga community places a high value on family unity, hospitality, and reverence for elders, ensuring the transmission of religious and cultural traditions to future generations.
The Amma Kodaga people practice Hinduism, honoring a variety of deities and participating in numerous religious rituals and festivals. Because of their traditional military background, the Kodaga people worship weapons such as swords in some of their ceremonies.
The Amma Kodaga people need better access to quality education to provide their children with opportunities for advancement. Improved healthcare services are crucial due to the limited availability of medical facilities and high rates of preventable diseases. Economic support through sustainable agricultural practices, better market access, and vocational training can boost their livelihoods. Infrastructure improvements, including better roads, clean water supplies, and electricity, will greatly benefit the Amma Kodaga community. Addressing these needs will help the Amma Kodaga people achieve greater socio-economic stability
Pray for the Lord to draw Amma Kodaga people to seek, find and embrace the only savior.
Pray for a soon coming movement of Amma Kodaga disciples who are willing to disciple others.
Pray for loving and dedicated workers to go to them from other parts of southern India.
