Introduction / History

The Bantar people consider themselves sudras, that is, those from the lowest of the four main sectors of the Hindu pecking order. We don't know for sure, but their name may come from the word "bans" which refers to bamboo. They are most noted for making bamboo goods, but some either fish or make thatched roofing for homes.

They live in West Bengal and Bihar.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Bantar people allow divorce on the grounds of adultery, barrenness or "maladjustment" by either spouse. Unlike most communities, the Bantars have the father keep the children after a marriage fails.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Bantar people are Hindus who worship family gods. Some of their sacred specialists are from their own community.

What Are Their Needs?

The Bantar people need to accept the warm embrace of the only savior so they can enjoy spiritually meaningful lives.

Prayer Points

Pray for the authority of Christ to bind hindering spiritual forces to lead them from darkness to light.

Pray for signs and wonders among the Bantar and for great breakthroughs with a rapid multiplication of disciples and house churches.

Pray for bold workers who are driven by the love of the Holy Spirit to go to them.

Pray for an unstoppable movement to Christ among the Bantar community.
