The Bavuri are a Hindu community found primarily in the Indian state of Karnataka, particularly in the northern districts of Bidar and Gulbarga. They are considered to be part of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category by the Indian government because they were traditionally tanners. That has given them low status.
When they aren’t working, the Bavuri people hold festivals where they sing and dance. Though they were tanners in the past, most are now farmers, traders and government workers.
The Bavuri people blend Hinduism with their ancient animistic beliefs.
Because of their Other Backward Classes (OBC) status, the Bavuri people have few opportunities for economic advancement or higher education. There is a "reservation" scheme by the Indian government aimed at raising the economic standing of peoples like the Bavuri.
Pray for the Bavuri culture to be renewed and enhanced by a work of the Holy Spirit and shaped into a God-centered and God-honoring mold.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among their family and community leaders to seek his face and enjoy his blessings.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out workers who will be compelled to nurture a Disciple Making Movement among the Bavuri people.
Pray that soon the Bavuri people will have faith that will lead them to live honorable lives that will draw others to the savior.
Pray for spiritual discernment and a hunger for true spirituality.
