Introduction / History

The Budega Jangam people are known as wandering monks and gurus devoted to Shiva, the "destroyer" god of Hinduism. When a Jangam monk arrives in a village, he is treated as though he were Lord Shiva.

The main language of the Budega Jangam is Telugu. They live throughout southern and central India.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Some Budega Jangam have left their original occupation as monks and taken jobs in agriculture, small business and government. The Budega Jangam often perform rituals, dance and play music in temples dedicated to Shiva.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Budega Jangam are devout Hindus of the Shivite sect. This means that they focus their worship on Shiva, though it is not limited to this Hindu god.

What Are Their Needs?

Since the Jangams' identity and history are directly tied to a destructive Hindu god, they might be under an exceptional amount of spiritual oppression. Bibles and literature are available in their Telugu language. Hindu background believers can share with the Jangam the blessings of knowing Christ and having their sins forgiven.

Prayer Points

Pray that the tiny number of Jangam believers would be trained to share the gospel with their Hindu families and neighbors. Pray that a strong movement to Jesus would bring entire Jangam families and communities into a rich experience of God's blessings. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work powerfully through those ministering to the Budega Jangam people. Pray that God would overthrow spiritual forces of darkness opposing the spread of his gospel among them.
