Introduction / History

The Bhurtia derive their community name from the term bhul because they believe they were ordained by God to pursue the occupation of buffalo-grazing. They often use Singh as their surname.

Child marriage and bride-price are prevalent practices. Madhya Pradesh (the primary home of this people group) has stern laws limiting conversions to Christianity.
