Introduction / History

The Bind are a Bhojpuri speaking Hindu people group. Though most live in India’s northeastern states, some live in Nepal and Bangladesh. Most speak Bhojpuri. They are under the “other backward castes” meaning they have low, but not the lowest status in Hindu India.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Women get married young, and they spend their lives caring for children and the home. Women seldom receive an education.

The men work as diggers, farm workers, fishermen, hunters well sinkers or basket makers.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They practice the Hindu religion and worship family deities as well as traditional Hindu gods. They are among the least reached peoples, and few will ever meet a Christ follower.

What Are Their Needs?

The Bind people need better educational opportunities.

They speak Bhujpuri, a language with an emerging Christian movement. They need Christ followers to introduce them to the one who offers life to the full.

Prayer Points

Ask God to prepare their hearts even now for the day when the Bind people hear the gospel.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move miraculously in West Bengal where few people have the eternal hope that comes from a relationship with Jesus.
Pray that the Bind people will learn about Christ and embrace him alone.
