Introduction / History

Like many people groups in India, the Chidars try to appear to be from higher castes, so some of them have adopted Rajput clan names. The Chidar people are actually a low-status community.

They live in India's central state of Madhya Pradesh and speak Hindi, India's most common language.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They have adopted occupations like being village watchmen, militiamen, farmers, masons, teachers, civil service workers, and businessmen. Few of them own land, and wage labor is on the increase in their communities. Chidar families decide whom their children will marry. In recent years, the age of marriage has risen among them.

What Are Their Beliefs?

These Hindus worship Devi Durga as their patron deity.

What Are Their Needs?

They need the Holy Spirit to empower them to open their eyes and see Jesus, the only one worthy of their praise and worship.

Prayer Points

Pray that soon the Chindar people will find Jesus so compelling that they will give up worshiping all Hindu gods and give Christ their full devotion.

Pray for Christian workers to go to the Chindar people until they have a movement to Christ.

Pray for spiritual hunger among the Chindar people.
