Introduction / History

The Chayakkaran people live in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, India's two southernmost states. They speak, read and write in Tamil. They do not have high caste status, but their status is not low either.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Chayakkaran's work involves dyeing and weaving. The women are involved with this work. Many now work in cultivation and in business and trading. The Chayakkaran practice cousin marriages. Widowers can marry again. When the father dies both sons and daughters get a share of the property.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Hinduism is their formal religion and they also worship their ancestors.

What Are Their Needs?

Chayakkaran people need the abundant life that only Jesus offers.

Prayer Points

Pray that Indian believers lead them into a movement to Christ. Pray for spiritual hunger and discernment. Pray for the Lord to thrust out workers to this unreached people group.
