Introduction / History

The Godari people speak Telegu and live primarily in India's eastern states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. They are a shoe-making community.

What Are Their Lives Like?

About one-third of them now have manufacturing or processing jobs. The Godari people have made some headway in increasing their literacy rate, and they desire to have formal education. They have access to piped water. The Godari people use both modern and traditional medicine.

Most of them have nuclear families, and the males inherit the family wealth. The bride's family pays a dowry to the groom's family. They perform marriage rituals at the groom's home. Caste based panchayats, or village councils, make decisions regarding community affairs.

What Are Their Beliefs?

As Hindus, they worship many family, village, and regional deities. Because they speak Telegu, a language that has many Christian resources, they can be reached by those willing to go to them.

What Are Their Needs?

The Godari people need to hear and receive the message that Jesus saves sinners.

Prayer Points

Pray for willing workers to go to the Godari people with gospel recordings, the JESUS Film, and other resources in the Telegu language.

Pray for a spiritual hunger among the Godari people that will lead them to the only savior.

Pray for dreams and visions of Jesus that will lead Godari elders to open their families to Christ.

Pray for adequate education and medical care for the Godari people.
