Kagzi means paper manufacturing in Urdu. Now that paper mills are available, the tradition of paper making has become less prominent in recent years. Many of the Kaghzi live in the Shahpur region of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The Kaghzi in Maharashtra have different customs to those in Gujarat, and they are more prosperous. They speak a Dakhani dialect of Urdu. The Kagzi people originated in Central Asia and they are more fair-skinned than many of their neighbors. They claim they were invited to India by Sultan Ahmad Shah hundreds of years ago.
In Gujarat many are self-employed in businesses and others are farmers. In Maharasthra, many Kaghhzi people are self-employed or involved with other kinds of work. Both the Kaghzi in Maharashtra and in Gujarat have caste associations that settle disputes and look after their community needs.
The Kaghzi or Kagzi are Sunni Muslims.
The Kaghzi people need to embrace the only One who can save them from sin and death.
Pray that as the Kaghzi hear about Jesus in the Koran that they will be willing to seek Him out and follow Him. Pray for the Kaghzi people to have a movement to Christ this decade. Pray that the leaders of the caste associations will come to Jesus Christ and lead the Kaghzi community to Him.
