Introduction / History

The Masthi people speak a Dravidian language called Masthi. It is in danger of becoming extinct since they have such a small number who currently speak it. They live in the coastal districts of Kadshina Kannada and Udupi of Karnataka. Others live further inland in Telangana.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Masthi are skilled potters and basket weavers. They also engage in fishing and farming.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Masthi are entirely Hindu. They have very little gospel witness among them.

What Are Their Needs?

Though they are a small community, they hope to revive their culture and language, which is dying. They also want to protect nearby natural resources needed for their fishing interests.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to bless this community economically and spiritually.

Ask God to raise up Masthi who are more desirous to know the truth than to stay on the broad road.

Ask God to send loving, committed workers to the Masthi in the near future.

Pray the Masthi would no longer be hidden away from the influence of Christ.

Pray for many of them to make disciples who will make even more disciples.
