The Bedar people live in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Pulwama and Shopian districts. Some are on the Indian side of the border while others are in Pakistan.
The Bedar people are trying to retain their cultural ways amid a potential war zone.
The Beder are unusual as Muslims; they blend Sunni and Shia practices. Many of their religious practices have been passed down through the generations through storytelling and folk tales.
One of the Shia practices that they have embraced is commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Mohammad. They cling to the Muharram festival with great fervor and solemnity. Their rituals include drumming and chanting.
Living in Jammu & Kashmir is very difficult for anyone. It is a land that can flare up into a war zone at any time. India and Pakistan have fought over it several times. China has laid claim to part of it as well.
Pray for many from this unreached people group to understand both God’s judgment and his majestic glory and goodness.
Pray for loving workers to go to the Beder people, and for their hearts to be ready to receive their savior.
Pray for a chain reaction of families reaching families that result in thousands of new disciples who share their faith with others.
Pray for grace and truth expanding into their entire society as all believers learn to love others.
