Introduction / History

The word Tanla means low as they are looked on as low socially. The Tanla are a Scheduled Caste. The Tanla live in Odisha, and they speak Oriya, the language of that state.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They work mainly in agriculture. Most of them are landless. The women do housework. They often marry their cousins. They believe in education, but their literacy level is low, so the gospel will need to be presented in oral forms.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Tanla are Hindus and they have their own festivals.

What Are Their Needs?

The Tanla people need to experience the blessings and abundant life offered by Jesus Christ for all nations.

Prayer Points

Pray that the Tanla people will look to Jesus Christ to give them dignity and worth. Pray for a disciple making movement among them this decade. Pray for workers. Pray that gospel recordings and the JESUS Film will enable them to begin their own Discovery Bible Studies.
