Introduction / History

Despite their present ethnic divisions, the Hua Miao were once one group. Given the comparatively minor extent of linguistic variation within Hua Miao it is feasible that the group formed a single ethnolinguistic group ... perhaps only 600 years ago. The present geographical scattering is due mostly to migrations during the Qing Dynasty which were fueled by persecutions and other social unrest.

Where Are they Located?

Most members of the Hua Miao people are in China's Yunnan Province, but some live in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Like other Hmong-speaking peoples, the Hua Miao people enjoy music, festivals, and colorful clothing. They love to sing, tell stories, and dance. Stories are often told in poetry, put to music and sung. They love to tell stories about weddings, especially about the bridegroom and his friends at a wedding banquet.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Hua Miao, being scattered over a large area, have several main religious beliefs, including animism, polytheism and ancestor worship.

What Are Their Needs?

The Hua Miao people have no gospel recordings, JESUS Film or Christian radio broadcasts in their language.

Prayer Points

Pray that the Bible will soon be available in their language in print and audiovisual format.
Pray that many Hua Miao will become part of Christ's bride, the Church.
Pray for spiritual hunger for the Hua Miao people in China and Vietnam.
Pray for a powerful disciple making movement to affect all Miao peoples.
