Introduction / History

The Tlacoapa are a subgroup of the greater Tlapanecos peoples. There are three subgroups of this tribe.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Tlacoapa Tlapaneco is a farming community. For cash crops they grow bananas, sugar cane and coffee. For their daily meals they grow corn, beans, squash, and chili peppers. The poorer ones must sell the beans they grow rather than eat them. Those who are day laborers are known for their hard work.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Tlacoapa Tlapaneco worship both a male and a female god. They also have impersonal gods which are being replaced by their Roman Catholic beliefs. Almost all identify as Roman Catholic, but they still practice their traditional religion.

What Are Their Needs?

The Tlacoapa Tlapaneco need better farming equipment so they can have a better yield.
