Introduction / History

Malvi is a language spoken in central India. There are some Brahmins who speak it, but it is being replaced by Hindi. Generally, people speak Hindi in towns and cities. In the villages, people are more likely to speak Malvi.
Brahmins have had high status in the Hindu world for thousands of years. Malvi speaking Brahmins are no exception.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Malvi Brahmin families are concerned with maintaining their status in a time where those who traditionally had lower status are given special privileges. They send their children to universities and try to get good paying jobs. It is often a stigma for their children to be Hindu priests rather than engineers, professors, etc.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Malvi Brahmins are solidly Hindu. They might worship any of millions of Hindu gods during their pujas (devotions), but as Brahmins they are much more likely to be attracted to the philosophical version of Hinduism.

What Are Their Needs?

God's Word in Malvi will clearly communicate the message from God. So far, they have a New Testament but not a complete Bible in the Malvi language.
Now their needs largely involve spiritual openness to the truth. Will they accept God’s word, or will they continue in their traditional ways?

Prayer Points

Pray for God to open doors for communicating the gospel and for culturally appropriate church planting by the Malvi among themselves.
Pray for Malvi Brahmins to hear and respond to the gospel no matter how much community pressure they face.
Pray for Malvi Brahmin disciples to disciple others in the ways of Jesus Christ.
