The total population of the Dujo probably does not reach 100. The people have lost their native language and presently speak Spanish.
The Dujo live outside of the city of Neiva in a place known as El Trapichito, having regained possession of this land in 1985. Previously, the entire surrounding area, including that which became Neiva, belonged to them.
Having leaned toward assimilation into the surrounding culture, the Dujo have begun to recover some of their traditions. Affairs of the group are maintained through a town hall-style leadership. Ultimate authority rests in the community council.
They cultivate maize, bananas, cassava and fruit. They raise animals as well, but these are usually small animals rather than big livestock.
Pray the Dujo will not disappear as a unique culture within the larger culture of Colombia.
Pray Colombia's church will gain a vision and a passion to see their Dujo neighbors come to faith in Christ.
Pray the Dujo will finally have a peaceful and lasting claim to their land.
