The Washoe are a tribe of Native Americans who live near Lake Tahoe between California and Nevada. The name Washoe means people from here. They have lived in the Great Basin for many years.
The Washoe eat piƱon pine nuts to a large extent in winter. During the rest of the year they eat such things as roots, berries and game. They have a good understanding regarding what is available in their land.
The Washoe gained federal recognition as the Washoe tribe of Nevada and California in 1934.
The Washoe Tribal Council is the governing body for the Washoe tribe. They speak their own Wasiw language. They have a newsletter and have many departments including a health clinic, an environment and protection department and a housing department too.
Pray that Washoe Christians will bring the others to Jesus Christ.
Pray that their well-being will be protected.
