Introduction / History

The Miyan or Miya are Muslims who came to Nepal from northern India four to five hundred years ago. They lived in the hills making military weapons for the hill rulers. They live in the capital Khatmandu, Ghorka and other places. They speak Nepali and Urdu.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are like the neighboring tribes of the Chhetri and Bahun in some of their ways and customs.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Miyan have been influenced by certain types of Hinduism. They follow some Islam customs such as circumcision and burying the dead but do not follow some of the other Islamic customs.

What Are Their Needs?

The Miyan people need to hear that only Jesus Christ can save them from sin. As it stands, they probably do not have a single Christ follower. They speak Urdu, a language that has all kinds of gospel materials.

Prayer Points

Pray that God will give the Miyan dreams and visions leading them to Jesus Christ.
Pray that Nepalese Christians will help lead them to salvation.
Pray for them to hunger for true spiritual riches and find it in the King of kings.
