The meaning of their name is cultivator; this is a farming community. The Hindre Kunbi live in Maharashtra and speak Marathi and Hindi. They also read and write in Devanagari.
The Hindre Kunbi people work in agriculture, but many work as day laborers today. Education is important to them. Marriages are arranged by their elders. They marry as adults, often to their cousins. The bereaved and divorced can marry again.
The Hindre Kunbi people practice Hinduism, the ancient religion of India. Hinduism is a catch-all phrase for the local religions of South Asia, so it is very diverse. At the popular level, Hindus worship and serve the gods of the Hindu pantheon. They visit Hindu temples and offer prayers, food, flowers, and incense to their gods in hopes of gaining protection and benefits. They do not have a personal or familial relationship with their gods like Christians or Jews. There are other Hindus who are much more philosophical, especially among the Brahmins.
The Hindre Kunbi community needs to experience the abundant life offered by Jesus Christ.
Pray that Indian believers will lead the Hindre Kunbi people into a disciple making movement. Pray that gospel materials and the internet will provide them with the materials they need to start their own Discovery Bible Studies.
