Introduction / History

The Kulina Pano tribe live in the southwestern part of Brazil’s rainforest, mostly in the state of Acre. Their language is Kulina and it’s part of the Panoan family of languages.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Kulina Pano have always been hunters and gatherers who find their food in the Amazon rain forest. They also practice slash and burn agriculture. Their crops include beans, corn and manioc.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Kulina Pano people have a great respect for the land since they lives are dependent upon it. They honor and revere animals, rivers and trees. Their spiritual rituals are closely associated with things of nature.

What Are Their Needs?

They could easily lose their land to outsiders who want to exploit the resources. The Kulina Pano people are trying to maintain their traditional way of life and prevent their natural environment from being ruined.
