The Tajakant are sedentary, engaged in small-scale trading and farming. They mainly live in Morocco and the Moroccan administered territory of Western Sahara, but some live in Algeria. In past years, the Tajakant were known as traders and warriors, and held a strong position in the trans-Saharan trade between sub-Saharan Africa and Morocco. They are Muslims, belonging to the Maliki school of Sunni Islam.
Tajakant are solidly Muslim. Outside ideas are not welcome.
Good quality Christian radio in the Arabic language can reach the most remote camps and villages. The potential is there, but people need to be aware of such broadcasts.
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." Psalm 23:1
Pray that this people group will be satisfied with the Lord alone and turn to no other god.
Today their lifestyle and tribal cultures are mixing with modern western practices. Men are more likely to adjust and interact with modern cultures, but women are bound by honor and tradition to stay within the family dwelling. Pray for tribes like the Tajakant to be able to make the necessary adjustments while retaining that which is good in their culture. Pray that changes within the Tajakant culture would include the lordship and blessings of Jesus Christ. Pray for a Christ-ward movement.
