Traditionally, the members of the Chalvadi carried carcasses and worked as servants. They would remind the Lingayat Bania about the full moon and new moon days of the month, so that they could perform the necessary rites to Lord Shiva. More recently, they have become wage laborers in agricultural operations. Some are employed in government service. Their deities include Durgamma, Mariyamma, Hanumantha, Yellamma and Huligamma.
The Chalvadi know very little about Jesus. Christianity is foreign to their worldview. They need to find Jesus Christ and understand why he is the only one they need.
Pray for the Chalvadi community to educate their children, find better employment and enjoy a better standard of living.
There are only a few followers of Jesus Christ within this community. Pray for these Christians to consistently clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience and represent Christ well.
