Introduction / History

The Utu live about 30 kilometers northwest of Madang Town, the provincial capital. Utu is spoken by all generations in their communities in face-to-face communication. Nonetheless, neither they nor any of their nine neighboring language groups have any scripture in their language.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Cocoa is the main source of income in the district where the Utu live, followed by poultry, copra and betel nut. It is also common to grow pitpit, bananas, laulau, guava, peanuts, corn, aibika (a green leafy vegetable rich in iron) and sugar cane.

What Are Their Beliefs?

There is a high percentage of Evangelicals among the Utu people. Almost all are officially Christian.

What Are Their Needs?

It breaks God's heart that these precious people cannot relate closely with him because they do not hear his word in a language that they understand. Please pray!

Ask God to thrust out workers to bring the Bible to the Utu and their many neighboring groups who are missing out on the scriptures.
Please also pray that God prepares their hearts to embrace his word and follow him.
Ask God to provide the material needs of the Utu.
