The Vettuvans are a subgroup of the Pulaya peoples. The Pulayas have a tribal background, so they have low status in the Hindu world.
This Hindu people group lives mostly in Kerala, a state in southwestern India. A smaller number live in western Tamil Nadu state.
Along with most others from low caste groups, the Vettuvan Pulayan are landless. Many are engaged as agricultural laborers, serving landowners without significant pay.
They are known to be talented craftsmen and basket makers. They have a tradition of oral storytelling and folk songs. When they are not working to please their landlords, they enjoy singing and dancing to the music of drums and stringed instruments.
The Pulaya Vettuvan people are Hindu. Hinduism is actually a catch-all term for all the indigenous religions of India. Hindu communities are free to worship as many or as few of the millions of gods Hinduism has to offer. As a general rule, they worship gods they believe will offer them protection and favors.
Like any people group that is despised by others, the Pulaya Vettuvans need to find their sense of worth in Almighty God the Father, who offers everything to His children.
Pray for workers to go to the Pulaya Vettuvan people, and for their hearts to be ready to receive their Savior.
Pray for networks of believing Pulaya Vettuvan families and fellowships that will throw the doors open for others to follow Jesus.
Pray for the Lord to bless the families among the Pulaya Vettuvan people with His presence and mercy.
Pray for believers among this people group to disciple others who will disciple still others.
Pray for Bible believing fellowships and churches among the Pulaya Vettuvan people.
