The Lingayat Kudu Vokkaliga live in Karnataka and speak, read and write in Kannada.
The Kudu Vokkaliga allow cousin marriages. They do not allow for divorce, but widowers can marry again. Weddings are at the home of the bridegroom. They are vegetarians.
Some believe that Lingayats are a sect of Hinduism because their beliefs differ in certain ways. They worship mainly Shiva, a main Hindu god, but they have rejected the caste system. They believe that all people are equal. They share many other beliefs with Hinduism, which is a flexible religion, but they have their own separate pilgrimage sites, temples and shrines.
This people group needs the opportunity to experience the joy and peace of sitting at the feet of Jesus Christ, the only Savior. They need His salvation and blessings.
Pray that the community council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him. Pray that gospel materials and the internet will lead them to begin a church planting movement. Pray believers around the world will not neglect the Lingayat peoples in prayer.
