They and other tribes were often used as slaves by the Portuguese and Arab Muslim traders.
Because of their hot, humid climate, the Senas in Mozambique wear few clothes, but they cover their legs for modesty sake. Most fish and farm for their food supply. Others are migrant laborers.
Before a wedding, there is a bride price which involves cattle. The more conservative Senas have child marriages and polygamy.
Those in Mozambique are largely Roman Catholic, but they also hold onto traditional beliefs. Interestingly, they prefer an Africanized Bible translation which they have embraced as their own. There is a strong Evangelical presence among them.
The Senas in Mozambique need more medical clinics.
