The Dagaari Jula, or the Yari, people group is scattered in south central Burkina Faso and the northwestern Ghana. The group is quite small, numbering between 15,000 and 20,000. In general, they are subsistence farmers, though many are involved in commerce.
The Dagaari Jula are unique among Burkina Faso groups for several reasons. First, the group does not have a well-defined home region. They share certain villages with those of different ethnic groups, having a give and take relationship with their neighbors. A second characteristic of the group is the fact that almost all of them, especially in Burkina Faso are Muslims.
