Introduction / History

Most people/tribe have a movement history, Ruruma is without exception. The origin of the Ruruma is still a matter of mythical propositions some of which include coming from Rome, Bauchi State, etc indicating the participation in the mobility of humanity in planet earth over history. The latest tales states that Ruruma people lived on/around the Kudaru/Zurubu hills moving in the area of River karami and crossing to Kauru. The hill settlements, referred to as Makuwha by the Ruruma people, were majorly grouped as Kusahn, Abakhu and Rigirhu as the Rulership house. These three settlements are in existence in the present plains but new ones evolved as people dispersed further from them bringing addition of Kakudha, Kagadama and Rafin Rimi. There are other towns that were created by the Ruruma people but are now inhabited mostly by the Hausa people. These include Kauru and Kadage (Kurwhi), while the Kitimi people had part of Ruruma land ceded to them. Our neighbours include Rumaya, whom understand Ruruma language and Hausa to the north, the hills and Kitimi to the east, Kaibi and Kiwallo to the south, while river Kaduna bounds the land to the west. The greater influence to the language is the interaction with the Hausa as many words have lost their origin in favour of hausa words. The name of the major town, Kusahn was changed to the present Kwassam and in the www it is stated as New kwasam indicating the old to be the hillside from where they descended to present plains.
