The Hindu Doai people speak Bengali and live mainly in India's state of West Bengal. Traditionally they were pig herders, fishermen, or palanquin bearers, meaning that they carried people on sedan chairs.

What Are Their Lives Like?

It is unclear what they do for a living today, but most likely their work brings them low status.Their marriages are arranged by negotiations, and no one is allowed to marry someone in either parent's line going back four generations. They have monogamous marriages. Doai people get married as adults.
