The Giddidki were traditionally fortune-tellers and alms-collectors. They live in northern Karnataka.
Now the selling of aluminum utensils and plastic boxes forms their main occupation. A few own land and are engaged in cultivation. There are also vegetable vendors, cycle repairers, collectors of old bottles, and daily-wage laborers among them.
All males are given equal shares in the family property, while the eldest son succeeds as the head of the family. Their traditional community council, the latikuta, deals with cases such as adultery, theft, and intercommunity marriage.
They mainly worship Durga, Lakshmi, Eswara, and Siddeswar. Thulajapur is their sacred center.
The Hindu Giddikki have little concept of a creator God, someone who stands outside his creation, yet is knowable as a person. They need a radical change in understanding.
Please pray for prayer warriors to be raised up to pray for the many unreached communities of India including the Giddikki community.
Pray for loving ambassadors of Christ to go to the Giddikki people and teach new believers to disciple others.
Pray the Lord will begin to stir the hearts of many to know they need forgiveness for their sin, and that forgiveness is only available through the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Pray the Giddidki community will be able to gain new skills to become more employable, and for a rising literacy rate.
