Introduction / History

What is the difference between the Ahir peoples and the Yadav peoples? The name! They are the same. Within the Yadav peoples are certain subgroups, all of which might need a different Disciple Making Movement. One of these are the Gualban Yadavs, who have their own Hindu beliefs. This subgroup takes their roles as cowherders, milkers, and cattle breeders very seriously, and their beliefs are more traditional than other Yadav subgroups. The Gualbans are one of the Yadav communities who traditionally did cattle raising. In the past, because Yadavs had the exclusive rights to the milk cows, they were hired on all occasions by Hindu people and their status was relatively high. There is a smaller number of Gualban Yadavs in Muslim Pakistan who do hold such high status. They are more numerous in India and Nepal where there is a Hindu majority.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Yadav are a caste comprising dairymen, cattle producers, and laborers. The Yadav consist of both landowning and landless people. Today, not all of them are in occupations dealing with cattle and its products. Many have become cultivators or moved on from rural pursuits. They have higher honor in Hindu India than they do in Muslim Pakistan.

What Are Their Beliefs?

All of them are classified as Hindu even in Muslim Pakistan. Hindus tend to be pragmatic about their spiritual beliefs, worshipping whatever god they believe will benefit them. The religious beliefs of a Hindu can be both flexible and diverse since they have very little dogma like their Muslim neighbors.

What Are Their Needs?

The Yadavs need to know what Jesus Christ can do for their families and communities. It will be very difficult for them to do that, since they live in Muslim Pakistan where there are very few believers.

Prayer Points

Pray for a holy fear of God that will lead the Yadav peoples in Pakistan to seek, find and follow Jesus no matter what the cost may be. Pray for the Lord to thrust out workers who will be compelled to see a Disciple Making Movement among the Gualban Yadav people in Pakistan. Pray for Yadav leaders to embrace the blessings that their community can enjoy by being part of Christ's kingdom.
