Introduction / History

The Sartangs are a subtribe of the much larger and better known Monpa people.

Where Are they Located?

The small Sartang tribe lives in India's northeastern Arunachal Pradesh state. More specifically, they live in two villages in the Kameng District. Their language is one of the Kho-Bwa languages of northeastern India.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Sartangs are surrounded by other tribes. There are many tribes in this region, and their religious and other practices sometimes get blended together.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Sartang people live in a unique part of India. Within 300 miles, there are people who are majority Hindu, Muslim, Christian, or Buddhist. Officially they are Buddhists, but their beliefs are probably more animistic than anything. Like most tribal people who are considered Buddhist, the Sartangs try to appease the spirit world in exchange for favors like good health and a good harvest.

What Are Their Needs?

The Sartangs need to find the Savior who alone can offer abundant, eternal life.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among Sartang family and community leaders to seek His face and enjoy His blessings.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out workers who will be compelled to nurture a disciple making movement among the Sartang people.
Pray that soon the Sartang people will have faith that is more precious and durable than gold.

Scripture Prayers for the Sartang in India.
