The Carapanas are an indigenous group in Colombia. The 20th century brought great change to them. Their lives were greatly changed by the rubber industry and mission efforts.
They live in rectangular palm-leaf homes with gabled roofs. They use slash and burn methods for their farming. Their main crop is cassava brava. They also hunt, fish and gather wild fruits.
The Carapanas have adjusted to outsiders.
The Carapanas are mainly Roman Catholic, though some are Evangelical. Their churches are strong enough to evangelize others.
Like most people in this region, the Carapanas need protection from mining and rubber interests. Commonly, indigenous peoples lose their homeland to these outsiders.
Pray for safety and justice for the Carapanas of Colombia.
Pray that the troubles they have had will make them receptive to the gospel and lead them to salvation.
Pray for Carapana Christians to be Christ-bearers to neighboring tribes.
