The Greeks have been in Cyprus since 1500 BC. Greece controlled Cyprus during the Byzantine Empire but lost it to the Turks during the Ottoman Empire in 1571. Cyprus gained independence from the Ottomans in 1820. Cyprus fell under British rule from 1878-1960. In 1974, following a Turkish invasion, Cyprus was divided between ethnic Turkish and Greek regions. The language of Greeks in Cyprus is Cypriot Greek.
Greeks in Cyprus are noted for their cuisine, which is similar to what one would find in Greece.
Most are members of the Church of Cyprus, one of the Orthodox churches. They worship Christ as Lord, but that often takes the back seat to traditions and ceremonies.
They are religious but lack understanding of the gospel and the need for a close relationship with the living God.
Pray that there is a way to clearly communicate the need for relationship with the living God.
Pray for a release of workers, finances and resources to see the harvest through.
Pray that soon Greeks in Cyprus will disciple others in the faith.
Scripture Prayers for the Greek in Cyprus.
