Introduction / History

The Guajibos are a tribal group in Colombia.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Guajibo family is usually nuclear. They make exceptions for newly married males who take their wives to live with their parents. Males inherit the few belongings of their fathers, while females inherit goods from their mothers.

They give affection to their children. They are permissive with their children, yet there is punishment for those who violate social norms. Formal education began in the 1950s. Later, they had indigenous teachers. By the 1980s, there were programs to protect indigenous languages, such as Guahibo, the language of the Guajibos.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though there are indigenous religious beliefs, the Guajibos are mostly Christian. Most of these are Roman Catholic, but there is also a strong Evangelical movement among them.

What Are Their Needs?

The Guajibos need to be Christ-bearers to their neighbors. Some tribes are either unreached or under-reached with the gospel.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move mightily in Guajibo churches, empowering them to heal as a testimony of God s power and mercy.

Pray for them to be protected from those who wish to take their land and marginalize them.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to prepare and send out Guajibo disciples to disciple others.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to bless the Guajibo people physically and spiritually.
