For centuries the Tuxa people were hunters, fishermen and farmers. Then came the Itaparica hydropower plant, and they have been landless ever since. It took over 10 years to get compensation for their lost land, but they await a new homeland.
The Tuxa people live among other First Nation people. In this environment they are not wearing their traditional clothes. They are very concerned that their ancient tribal lands have been flooded.
Some are Roman Catholic, and they focus their devotion on John the Baptist. Most adhere either to their traditional religion or they have blended it with their form of Roman Catholicism.
The Tuxa people need a homeland where they can farm and earn a living.
Pray for spiritual hunger and a discernment that will keep the Tuxa people away from spiritual counterfeits.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to revive Tuxa Christian believers, leading them to make disciples who will make more disciples.
Pray for their fellowships to be Christ centered rather than tradition centered.
Pray there will soon come a day when the Tuxa people will send loving workers to the unreached people groups in their country.
