The Venustiano Carranza Tzeltal live in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas. Chiapas is on the border with Guatemala.
There is so much poverty in the Venustiano Carranza Tzeltal homeland that many are leaving to earn a living elsewhere. Their hometown, Venustiano Carranza, is only half indigenous. The other half is mestizo, people of mixed indigenous and Mexican background.
The Venustiano Carranza Tzeltal is highly Christianized, but less than two percent Evangelical. Traditionally they have been Roman Catholic, but the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons are making inroads into their communities. There is a complete Bible in their language, but the Book of Mormon is being translated for them as well.
The Venustiano Carranza Tzeltal people need to understand and embrace a Christ-centered theology. They need a higher literacy rate both in Spanish and their Tzotzil language.
Pray for the Venustiano Carranza Tzeltal to become literate in their own language, and willing to study the Bible in it.
Pray for their spiritual confusion to be replaced by Christ-centered lives.
Pray for Venustiano Carranza Tzeltal disciples to make more disciples who will make even more disciples.
