The Mazhabi are recognized as a "Scheduled Caste" who are given job preferences by India's affirmative action program.
They are a very low status community, not allowed to live with the larger population, to be educated with the general population, or to attend certain religious services. They are part of the former "scavengers" of India. Poverty and illiteracy are still rampant among their population in rural Punjab.
The Mazhabi can be Hindu or Sikh. Hinduism is a catch all for all religious traditions in South Asia. Sikhism is an attempt to highlight the best of Hinduism and Islam.
There are very few Christ followers among the Mazhabi people, and they live in a part of India where there are few Christians. Fortunately, they speak a language with plenty of gospel materials.
Pray for spiritual breakthroughs among the Mazhabi people.
Pray that God's servants will not see them as unworthy of their time, attention and love.
Pray for the Lord to bless them by thrusting out his choice servants.
