Cayubaba is the name of a tribe in Bolivia. It s also the name of their language, which is dying. Their first contact with Westerners was in 1693 when they encountered Jesuit missionary priest, P. Agust n Zapata in 1693. A couple of years later the Jesuits established the Mission of Exaltation of the Holy Cross. By the beginning of the 1800s, the Cayabuaba language and culture were fading.
The Cayubaba are mostly farmers who grow squash, beans, corn, casava, yucca, bananas, sugar cane and sweet potatoes. They raise livestock for their meat and milk.
The Cayubaba have longstanding ties with the Roman Catholic Church. They are Christianized, but like most tribes in this region, they blend Catholicism with traditional religion.
The Cayubaba need better health care. This is a need that is hard to meet in such a mountainous nation.
Pray for the Lord to anoint the Cayubaba families with a desire to take Christ to every family and people group in Bolivia.
Pray for a spiritual revival to bless the Cayubaba people.
Pray for them to have full access to all Christian materials in a language they can understand.
