Paraguayan Guarani is a local language spoken by a high percentage of people in Paraguay. Along with Spanish, it is the must-speak language of Paraguay. Guarani is a combination of several local languages, and it has become dominant in Paraguay.
The Guarani are the descendants of those who left mission stations after the Spanish closed them down in the 1700s. Their land has been reduced to make way for cattle ranches and other commercial enterprises. Many have lost hope and the suicide rate is high among the Guarani people.
Almost all Guarani are Christian and they have a strong indigenous Evangelical presence.
The Guarani people want their land back, but this is highly unlikely to happen. Instead, those who want to help them should focus on giving them training so they can have a future in Latin America’s urban centers. Others can help them with physical needs by establishing medical and dental clinics.
Pray for Guarani elders and family leaders to put their identity in Jesus Christ rather than their ethnicity. May they gladly give him all the glory!
Pray for Guarani disciples to disciple many others, leading to a new movement to Christ.
Pray for the Lord to provide for the needs of the Guarani people as a testimony of his goodness and power.
